Global trade Data- A new specification to enhance your business

Is India planning to double the export of non-basmati rice next year?

The export of non-basmati rice from India to countries like China, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Indonesia contributes to India's Export data at a pronounced level. In the past few months, India has been facing a considerable decrease in the non-basmati rice export due to the country's covid-19 crisis. Due to this, the prices of the commodity have fallen by 10%. According to Cybex.in India export data, India exported non-basmati rice worth $410 Million. However, in October, the export value of non-basmati rice fell to $378 million only. Such loss has led BV Krishna Rao to implement new strategies in order to outdo the rival exporters of non-basmati rice, including Vietnam.

As per the forecast 2021-2022 Foreign Trade data report, India holds enough quantity of rice in tonnes to double the export in the upcoming year. Indeed, BV Krishna Rao has publicly declared India's increased capacity to export non-basmati rice because the rates are 10% cheaper. In 2019-2020, India exported approx 5 million tonnes of non-basmati rice to other countries. However, this year, the exporters Association of India has enough storage to export over 10 million tonnes of the mentioned commodity, that too, at cheaper rates. It sounds like a win-win for the self-reliant India Movement.

All India Rice Exporters' Association has keenly observed the impacts of COVID-19 widespread all over the world. Vinod Kaul mentions that the west African countries are going through food security concerns. Hence, India export data will soon spotlight surplus in 2021 as it is ready to export all necessary food items to the other countries in need. On the other hand, Vietnam and Thailand (India's major competitors) are seeking high-end fluctuation of non-basmati rice's price. It has risen since COVID-19 hit the world. Currently, Vietnam and Thailand are at $400 to $500 per tonne of non-basmati rice. Economic Times also reports a persistent fall in the rice production in Thailand. Hence, it will soon be out of the race.

However, barriers like lack of containers at the port, India-Bangladesh import of broken rice tender, and Vietnam still competing can be the parameters of change in the forecast report. Yet, Cybex.in verifies that India is planning to increase the export of non-basmati rice by 68%. How?- China has given thumbs-up to the production mills that were not cleared before by China's Phytosanitary Department. Thus, it can be said that countries like China trust Indian exporters more than Thailand and Vietnam in the context of quality, quantity, and hygiene.
